CAODC Presents Safety Awards to over 3 000 Drillers and Rig Managers

The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) this weekend will continue its 34-year tradition of recognizing senior field employees who achieve 200 days of rig operations without a recordable incident.

3 006 rig employees have been nominated by 39 drilling and service rig contractors for a CAODC Safety Award.

This represents over 600 000 days in which Drillers and Rig Managers led their crews in incident-free operations in 2013.

The drilling industry will gather Saturday at the Westin Edmonton for the annual CAODC Safety Awards banquet. The service rig awards banquet will take place April 12.

Industry measures its safety performance using a formula known as Total Recordable Incident Frequency (TRIF). TRIF for the rigs has seen significant improvement in the last decade. Incident frequency has been cut to one-third of what it was ten years ago.

CAODC president Mark Scholz ties this industry achievement directly to rig site supervision: “When rig crews are working safely, it’s because their drillers and rig managers are committed to safe operations. This industry is proud of the skilled professionals who work on Canadian rigs.”

CAODC is the unified voice of the Canadian drilling and service rig industry. For 65 years, CAODC has promoted safer and more efficient operations through advocacy, communication and needed products and services. CAODC is committed to supporting a culture of safety excellence in the industry and continuing a strong tradition of leadership and cooperation.
